Amongst the chaos, we search for the cure within each other, LOVE.
The collection entitled “Mercy” is a reflection of Muir’s thoughts revolving around his ideas of life, death, love, social injustice and the martyr. The goal with these pieces, along with any of Muir’s creations, is always to invite the viewer to think and evaluate all aspects of our lives, to question everything from how we operate to the way we treat each other and the planet. Muir has a great interest in anyone who is not afraid to go against the grain and speak out against any social injustice or oppression one might be aware of. There’s something about that fearlessness that inspires him to keep doing his own work. With that being said, these newer works highlight certain iconic figures who he feels played an important role in challenging the ideas of the norm. Choosing to use the Keyhole throughout his work to symbolize the Third Eye being open, someone who is aware of the big problems or simply someone whose mind is open to all possibly before formulating an opinion. The playful approach to loose and tight painting as well as the use of anagrams was inspired by the work of Jean Michel Basquiat.
Muir’s use of anagrams is a way of expressing knowledge that incorporates obscure facts of things that are unexplained and unknown, but found to be true. His objective is to remind the viewer that things in this world are not cut and dry and that there is still a lot of grey out there.
